i live in hines and i was wondering if u guys had any kittens up for adoption or know anyone with kittens? we just got a place and i miss having a fourlegged fur ball around.

  2. Hi Megan. I’m forwarding your email to Melanie who will have an answer for you. We’re at the tail end of kitten season; I’m sure we have cats and teens but I’m not sure if we have kittens at the moment.

  3. Rachel says:

The cat I got a few months ago ended up pregnant before she was old enough to be spayed so…I just this morning ended up with 5 little kittens. I would like to get them adopted out rather than taking them to a shelter…if you know of anyone looking for a new kitten please let me know because I can’t keep them all!

    I’m in Burns

Hi, I called and left a message earlier this morning. My name is Amber, and I am looking for some kittens or kitties for my little girls. I was just wondering if it costs any thing to adopt a cat or kitty. If you could get back to me I would greatly appreciate it.

    Thank you,

I’d like to post a photo of Neuryev (formerly known as Moogle) whom I adopted at HC Fair last week. He’s doing great & has added a huge personality factor to my existing cat family of 3. He’s Siamese & is talkative, plus cuddly. Thanks Michele, Angie, & Melanie!! How do I post it?? Thanks.

Hi I gave my dog up for adoption for killing a sheep of mine. My mother says that she doesnt want another big dog. Which small type of dog would be best??

  8. Melanie says:

Hi Christianna…sorry I didn’t get back to you sooner about your question. It really depends on what kind of small breeds you like. There are so many out there to choose from. I would suggest just getting online and researching some that you might be interested in and see which one best fits your lifestyle and fits into the family the best.

  9. I just heard about your NGO from my mother who lives in Eastern Oregon. I am in Portland but would like to help any way that I can. My first thought is having a searchable list of adoptable animals with Photos on your page!

Do you have a facebook page? This helped me raise a lot of money for a special international rescue we did.

You can also connect with petfinder and list your animals there!

Best of luck to you! Feel free to send me an email!

  10. Melanie says:

Hi there… well we do have a petfinder account. We just don’t do that well adopting locally so most of our rescues are transferred to other shelters and rescues. What we always need the most help with is finding homes for cats and kittens. Because there is no shelter in Burns and we started this rescue over 3 years ago all of us are on cat overload now and with kitten season coming it will only escalate. If you have any outlets for moms and kittens I would appreciate that info. We try to hold a few local adoption events every year but never seem to have much luck placing only a few. I know I need to get a facebook account going…another challenge with that is if we were to find homes locally then we need to get them fixed and we can’t afford the local vet so they need to be transported 130 miles to Bend. We do this for cats at least once a month but it all depends on the availability of funds and then someone to transport.

Hi, I’m looking for a kitten or a dog to adopt for my son. We just got our own place and we had an older cat but he had a problem with peeing on things, so i gave him to my mother in law and she’s keeping him as an outside cat. But I really miss having an animal:( and so does my son! I tried filling out the adoption aplication but my computer, for some reason isn’t letting me write on the form.

I’m looking for a female lil terrier/maltese/poodle/shitzu/yada yada. One not needing to be groomed. A cute medium shaggy lil thing. 🙂

After I lost my beautiful white cat Neureyev (see my posting of 9-14-10 &, yes, he looked like a ballet dancer… lean & graceful) to coyotes, I swore I’d find something to deter the sneaky devils as my property & cats had become their favorite dining establishment!! I found a device called NITE-GUARD which has a website. They are an approximate 5″X5″ solar powered, red-blinking LED device that comes on at dusk & goes off at dawn. The strong blinking red light deters any predator from coming too close. I have about 11 around the perimeter of our property facing east, west, north & south although I have more in the southerly, westerly & northerly directions than the east because that’s where the coyotes come from. So far I have not lost any more cats but I also have as a deterrent my border collie Allie who is a huge asset in chasing them away. I won’t say it’s fool-proof but for the past 2 years it’s worked.

  14. Courney says:

I’m dong a report for school on the different adoption programs in Harney County. I would realy like to know if you have an adoption fee, if so, how much?

  15. Melanie says:

    Hi Courtney,

Sorry I haven’t gotten back to you sooner. Adoption fees vary depending on wether it’s a cat or dog and if we have had to pay to get it spayed or neutered. We try to not go over $30.00 on a cat and $100.00 on a dog. Those prices include being spayed and neutered, first shots and worming. Hope this helps!

  16. Isabelle says:

Hi! I was wondering if you guys have any medium-small sized dogs that would enjoy going on walks everyday but nothing high energy like a cattle dog? Thank you

  17. Melanie says:

    Hi Isabelle,

We have one dog that is a mixed breed..pittie and maybe lab…she’s a total love bug and is doing great in her foster home. She still needs spayed as she was very thin when we got her so we’re putting weight on her. Let me know if she might be what you’re looking for or if you want a smaller breed dog.

  18. Teresa Fowler says:

  20. Alexandra puckett says:

Our dog Shara has been missing since 5-6-16. She is a red merle Australian shepherd with a blue eye and a light brown eye. We lost her at the sunset dairy/ carpenter ranch. She is my son’s dog and a very important part of our family. If you have any information please contact me. We are heart broken and need all the help we can get at this point.

  21. Melanie says:

Hi there…so sorry you are missing your dog. No one has called us about seeing her. If a stray is picked in the city of Burns or the county they are taken to the vet clinic in Burns 541-573-6450. If they are picked in Hines they are taken to a boarding facility in Hines, their number is 541-589-4106. Keep bumping up her picture on facebook. I have found that social media works the best because so many people are connected on there and someone is bound to see her somewhere. Don’t get discouraged! She has to be somewhere…we find posting flyers at the post office, Big R, and grocery stores help too!
